Light alloy has been used in building materials,transportations,aeronautic and astronautic industry which is owing to the property in light alloy like lower mass,stronger corrosion resistance,good machinability,and easy to recycling,etc.These advantages have given light alloy extensive application prospect and limitless latent capacity.This paper focuses on main parameters which have great influence on casting in the process of squeeze casting and developed a squeeze casting CAD system for light alloy.Low velocity filling is the determinant which distinguishes squeeze casting from other casting process,it also made designers trend to neglect the important effect of gating system on casting in process.This study combined designing theory of gating system,which was introduced by H.M.karl,with practical needs of squeeze casting in productive process to develop squeeze casting CAD system.This CAD system produces rational design of gating system,calculated filling ability and turbulent flow of molten metal in sprue runner and cavity,and provides main parameters in process.The result of experiment revealed that mechanical properties of casting samples have been improved by proper casting pressure and filling velocity,the result also provided great references for CAD system.In the final,the validity of parameters designed by gating system designing module of squeeze casting CAD system has been verified by using CAE program to simulate the filling process in cavity.This simulation proved that squeeze casting CAD system for light alloy could improve efficiency and period of designing,it also proved that productive efficiency of light alloy casting can be improved.
