Rapid tooling is a new type of mould making technology that develops on the basis of rapid prototyping technology.As a kind of rapid tooling technology,the direct metal backing mold making technology can realize the rapid manufacturing from part digital model to product,and meet the modern manufacturing needs of small batch,multi species and rapid prototyping,and cooling system is marking the molding efficiency and cycle of the important stage in the mold.But in the current,there is a huge gap with the international advanced level on the mould,so mould cooling system and metal backing mold are studied in detail in this paper.Firstly,the heat transfer of cooling system in injection mold is analyzed,and three major influences on cooling system of mould are obtained: the diameter of cooling channel,the distance between adjacent cooling channels and the distance from cooling channel to the mold surface.The experimental parameters are obtained by the empirical formula and the characteristic of the plastic parts dimension,and experimental parameters develop a kind of “double experiment”,namely jointing the uniform experiment and the orthogonal experiment,In order to save a lot of time of costs.Then the simulation of experimental date is carried out by Moldflow model flow analysis software,and the results are analyzed by intuitionistic contrast and range analysis method,the best experimental data are obtained.Secondly combining the traditional cooling design criteria with the 3D printing technology,a design method of “body to face and face to body” was presented that realized the conformal cooling of all azimuth cooling pipe layout,and made the mold cooling uniform;Finally,the overall structure and mechanical structure of the mold were designed.And the “gate location and filling” was analyzed by Moldflow software.Combining the appearance properties of the plastic parts,the gate position was optimized and the gate position was determined.In this paper,the “from body to face,from face to body” cooling system designing method and optimization data of pipeline layout have been applied to design the mold with shape cooling pipe.The experimental results proved that the mold temperature was reduced by 11.40% and the amount of warpage was reduced by 9.32%.Metal backing epoxy resin mold was designed and developed,and the quality of plastic injection molding was better,the mold life was greatly improved by injection molding experiment.
