Cast steel material has good mechanical properties and it is gradually used in the building structure for its high quality in strength, plasticity, toughness and applicability.Cast steel is mainly processed in cast steel nodes, which is generally used in some crucial mechanical position in some significant stadium. To some extent, the reliability of the whole structure is largely depended on the safety of cast steel nodes.Cast steel support is a sort of special cast steel node and the application of this kind of support in engineering domestically and overseas is still relatively limited. In the long-span steel structure and the heavy-duty steel structure, the support has to bear the complex load conditions of pressure, tension and shear force due to the combination of the temperature effect,so the traditional cast steel bearing can't meet the design requirements. The universal hinged support has the ability of bearing and rotating in universal directions, therefore,to study a safe, reliable and easy-to-produce heavy cast steel universal hinge can meet the requirement of such a support that can bear super compress force, tensile force and shear force simultaneously. This new cast steel universal hinged support has been applied in the construction of National Marine Museum, the total number of which is 150 and it is divided into three levels(A,B,C)according to the carrying capacity. This article is based on the construction of National Maritime Museum and studies the application of the universal hinged support using numerical simulation, experimental investigation and site-monitoring so as to provide reference for engineering application of cast steel joint in large span steel structure.A full-scale static test has been carried out on the heavy cast steel universal hinged support, and the difficulty of loading at the oblique part of the support has been solved by experiment. Finally, the test load of 12600 kN has been realized, showing that the bearing force is clear and reliable. The three-dimensional geometric model of the support has been established by the solid modeling software SOLIDWORKS,then the model was put into ANSYS to get finite element model.Numerical analysis is processed considering material nonlinearity, geometrical nonlinearity and contact behavior between stainless steel surface and PTFE plate. The comparison between the experimental results and the simulation results illustrates that the method of finite element modeling can simulate the mechanical properties of the support. The finite element analysis of the three kinds of support(A,B,C)proves the reliability of the support under adverse load conditions. Also, the characteristics of stress distribution, plastic development process, ultimate bearing capacity and failure mode under adverse load have been studied. The results show that the mode is reliable and has large emergency capacity when applying to practical engineering.Cantilevered members and A level support have been monitored on site, and we have estimated the force of the cantilevered members during construction through monitoring the strain and deformation to provide guarantee for the safety of construction.
