Deteriorating natural environment, strict government regulation, social concerns about environmental issues and consumer enthusiasm for green products are forcing more and more companies to integrate environmental issues into corporate strategic considerations. For example,Bayer Chemical attaches importance to resource conservation and environmental protection;Samsung and IBM take proactive environmental management practices while improving economic and environmental performance. However, some companies are reluctant to implement green practice, for instance, environmental pollution accidents of Zijin Mining emerge in an endless stream. So,in the end what factors prompted enterprises to implement green practice?Previous studies have focused primarily on the driving forces of external system pressures on corporate green practices, but it is difficult to explain why firms are treated differently under similar pressures. The study is based on the neoclassical interests of maximizing the point of view, trying to use a competitive environment to explain the reasons for different business practices. At the same time, the relationship between green practice and corporate performance, has not formed a consistent conclusion, pending further study. In addition,as market competition from a single enterprise to the supply chain competition,as an important part of green supply chain management, supplier green management practices and capabilities for business performance improvement has an important impact. So the green practice of the study includes internal green practices and green collaboration with suppliers. The study is based on global data and further considers the impact of cultural factors on the implementation of green practices. To sum up,the study will explore the following questions:(1)whether the competitive environment can promote the implementation of green business enterprises?(2)Green practice(including internal green practice, supplier green collaboration)is able to improve business performance?(3)whether the green practice of enterprises under different national cultures is different? We used 442 samples from the world, using SPSS,AMOS software for research and verification.Based on Natural Resource-based View, the study develops a theoretical framework for the link of competitive environment, green practices and firm performance.Using 442 survey data collected by Global Manufacturing Research Group in seven countries, the study examines the antecedents and performances of green practices,as well as the effect of national culture on green practices. The results indicate that firms facing more intense competitive environment are more likely to implement internal green practice, while competitive environment does not play a significant effect on supply green cooperation directly,it will post a positive effect on supplier green cooperation through the mediating role of internal green practices indirectly. Both internal green practices and supplier green cooperation play significant positive influences on environmental performance, while their influence on financial performance are not significant.A better environmental performance cannot lead to a better financial performance. The further analysis reveals that the countries with lower male-female score pay more attention on green practices.
