In this paper,we selected Xiaowengkaokeshan in Subei County,Gansu Provinve as study area which is also located in the arid desert-alpine area in western China.Some basic geological survey and mineral exploration has been conducted in this area in the past,however the work on the main metallogenic belt is in less-developed condition,so we suppose its prospecting potential is huge.This paper mainly studied the regional geology,mining characteristics,ore processing and deposit exploitation,and revealed the ore body by using terrain geological survey,drilling engineering,trenching engineering and so on to.Moreover,combined with the sample collection and testing,we conducted surface revealing and deepened controlling of four ore blocks including nine iron ore bodies(Fe-?-2,Fe-?-1,Fe-?-2,Fe-?-1,Fe-?-2,Fe-?-1 Fe-?-1,Fe-?-2,Fe-?-3)in the mining area were exposed and deepened.The following conclusions were obtained:(1)Through field geologic inspection in iron mining area in Xiaowengkaokeshan,The geological characteristics of the mining area are clarified from the aspects of regional geology,mining geology,characteristics ore body,ore deposit exploitation and so on.Moreover,it was identified as a sedimentary metamorphic iron deposit from the genetic classification of the ore deposit.(2)In this study,some effective working methods are applied,such as regional geochemical prospecting coverage,geochemical profile,high-precision ground magnetic survey,high-precision magnetic measurement profile,geological mapping in large scale,etc.Then combined with the testing results of collected samples,layout and construction of trenching,pit exploration,drilling and other prospecting engineering projects were determined.We also did surface revealing and deep ground controlling of the main iron ore bodies of ore blocks in the mining area,which further defined the concentrated distribution,large output scale,shallow burial and good mineral processing performance of ore body in the mining area.Furthermore,we analyzed the genesis of the deposit and summed up the strata,tectonic and wallrock alteration sign of prospecting.(3)Through the detection of mineral components of collected samples in the mining area,the most important metallic mineral in the iron ore is magnetite was determined,and the ore composition is relatively single.(4)This paper analyzed the technical conditions of ore deposit,forecasted the geological environmental problems,and evaluated the resource products and economic efficiency of this deposit.This is a small mine,it can be noticed that its economic efficiency is good and has a relatively great ability to resist risks through calculation from the economic overview,indicating that the development of mining has obvious economic efficiency and is economically viable.
