With a large number of oil and gas on land mined,the storage of which is decreasing year after year, it is difficult to meet the world’s demand for energy, so, many countries have already turned to the sea to seek energy. In the marine resources development projects,the important way of transporting the deepwater oil and gas is deepwater pipeline. However,because of the special working environment of the deepwater pipeline, it is susceptible to corrosion damage. Once these pipelines don’t work, it will affect the whole conveying system. Therefore, the deepwater pipeline maintenance equipment is particularly important for marine resources development project and it has important implications for the development of seabed resources.This paper describes the failure modes and repair methods of the deepwater pipeline,summarizes the development trends of the deepwater pipeline maintenance and cutting machine. Basis on the current international research about deepwater pipeline maintenance equipment and the deep water pipeline repair parameters, it proposes overall plan, design specifications and modular design methods of deepwater pipeline maintenance and cutting machine,and it researches and designs the key constituent bodies that cutting tools,rotating cutter and bearing mechanism. Basis on the design concept that deepwater pipeline repair and cutting machines once installed can achieve multiple repair functions, the three operating tools’ structure is proposed, and according to the related parameters of the equipment for pipeline repair operation, the structure of the three operating tools is designed in detail,including the design of tool’s feed system and the tool’s spindle system. On the basis of designing three cutting tools,the decorate installation institution of which is designed (rotating cutter) and two transmission schemes are proposed: roller type transmission scheme and curved rails transmission scheme. According to the related requirements of homework tools in actual operation, the transmission gear and power-driven device of the rotating cutter are definite, and the structure design of the bearing mechanism for deepwater pipeline repairs and cutting machines is confirmed. To ensure that three tools of the equipment works properly, analyze the key parts of the rotating cutter and bearing mechanism by static analysis, then test whether the structural strength and stiffness can meet the design demand by mechanical analysis, provide the basis for improving the design structure which cannot meet the requirements of design components. It cannot avoid the fatigue damage caused by mechanical vibration when the deepwater pipeline repairs and cutting machines works, therefore, at the end of this paper the modal analysis of the carrying mechanism is given use the ANSYS analysis software. By analyzing the inherent characteristics (the main vibration mode and natural frequency) of bearing mechanism,provide the basis for predicting the dynamic characteristics of the deepwater pipeline maintenance and cutting machine.There is still a gap with developed countries on related technical research of the deepwater pipeline repair, cutting machine, therefore, the study of deepwater pipeline maintenance and cutting machine is great significance, provide reference and experience for the follow-up research.
