s-metolachlor is one of chloroacetamide herbicide with higher activity and lower toxicity.It is discovered and developed by Ciba AG(now Syngenta AG)s-metolachlor has the excellent efficacy application due to its chrial activitiy.So far Syngenta is still the major manufacturer and supplier of this product because it is complicated to synthesize this molecule.Many enterpreties start research and development work in order to develop a realiable production process of this product.So that they can enter the market and get a part of market share.After the integrated research and development work,the achievement of this study is that we have successfully synthesized the target product S-metolachor.The route of synthesis starts from the cheap starting material 2-methyl-6-ethylaniline and it uses condensation reaction,asymmetric hydrogenation reaction,chloride acetylation reaction,separation and purification treatment to get S-metolachlor.The purity of s-metolachlor is 98% with the total yield of 81.5% which is higher than the published yield 73.4%.The quality of S-metolachor conforms with the requirements of the FAO for S-metolachlor.Compared to patent process,this process has the advantage below:The starting material is cheap.The yield is higher than the patent process.The reaction condition is mild and it's easy to realize industrial production.
