O-nitrotoluene was converted to 4-methoxy -2-methylaniline (MMA) by bamberger re-arrangement under catalysis hydrogena tion with Pt/C in MeOH. The compound(MMA) obtained was further condensed with phenol in the presence of Pd/C and NI in cyclohexanone to give 4-methoxy-2-methyldiphenyamine(DPA). The synthetic conditions of MMA and DPA were discussed by surveying various factors which influence the two reactions,and their optimum synthetic technique was found.The 4-methoxy-2-methylaniline was obtained in a yield of 71.2%,and have a purity of 98.9%. The 4-methoxy-2-methyldiphenylamine was abtained in a yield of 95.4%.and have a purity of 99.5%. The problem of catalyst regeneration was solved.The route of preparation was accomplished with two-step,which have advantages because of compact step,high yield,low consume of energe,cheapness of material.efficiency of catalyst recycle, wildness of reactive condition and so on.so it was suitable for industrialization.
