Advanced manufacturing and high-end equipment products are required to complete the surface polishing technology. In the field of mobile communications, automobile manufacturing, aerospace and other high-tech fields, the surface quality of the microstructured elements plays an important role in the completion of the major tasks of the equipment. How to improve the surface quality of the micro-nanostructures of important components becomes a key technical problem that needs to be solved urgently. There are many surface polishing technologies, such as,ultrasonic elliptical vibration polishing, balloon polishing technology, laser polishing technology.Although they are mature, the shortcoming that the complex device designs still exist. In this paper, the elliptical vibration is applied to the polishing of the workpiece surface. In this paper, the use of piezoelectric stack through the flexible hinge directly drives polishing grinding head, which is different from the ultrasonic elliptical vibration.A sinusoidal signal of a certain phase difference is applied to the piezoelectric stacks placed orthogonally, the piezoelectric stacks drive the grinding head to complete the ellipse polishing movement. On the one hand, the elliptical vibration polishing can reduce the workpiece surface roughness effectively,on the other hand it can also improve the polishing frequency by increasing the polishing efficiency. This paper designs two kinds of elliptical vibration polishing device which are two-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing device and three-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing device.I designed two kinds of hinge structures and analyzed them by ANSYS software for static and modal analysis. The hinge structures can avoid coupling and occurrence of resonance phenomenon.I process a two-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing device,it is proved that the elliptical vibration polishing device can effectively reduce the surface roughness through the aluminum alloy and brass surface polishing experiment. The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly,I design elliptical vibration polishing devices, the devices which are using the orthogonal placement of the piezoelectric stack drive polishing grinding with ultra-precision machine polish directly, which is more concise reduces the roughness of the workpiece surface effectively. The theory of elliptical vibration polishing is mainly analyzed, including the principle of elliptical motion, the structural analysis of flexible hinges and the piezoelectric stack drive method research.I designed two polishing devices, and tried to process a two-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing device.Secondly, the two-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing device was tested. The laboratory noise, the rigidity of the device and the natural frequency of the device are verified through the Newport RS4000 air vibration isolator,Microsense II 5300 capacitive displacement sensor, piezoelectric stack, power amplifier,PMAC motion control card,Siemens industrial control machine and push the tensile test equipment. At last, aluminum, brass and copper were polished by two-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing apparatus. It is verified that the two-dimensional elliptical vibration polishing can reduce the roughness of the workpiece surface through the detection of the workpiece surface roughness. We used two grinding heads which were different materials(wool and rubber)to polish coppers under the same polishing condition, the surface roughness of the workpiece which was polished by wool head was lower. It is verified that the material of the polishing head has some influence on the roughness of the workpiece surface.
