It is important to analyse the accident deeply and understand the mechanism of the accident for the safety management and accident prevention.The choice and application of accident causation model is the key of accident analysis method,with the in-depth analysis of the analysis of accident;the accident causation model is developing.The traditional accident analysis methods are limited to satisfy the need to explain how the causes led to the accident.And from the perspective of the whole,system analysis methods(SAM)make up for limitations of the traditional accident analysis methods.Functional Resonance Analysis Method(FRAM)is one of the typical representatives of SAM;it is different from common system analysis methods which focus on system failure mode.From the perspective of safety ?,FRAM focus on normative operation procedures of system function and emphasize the dynamics and nonlinearity and focus on how things go right,which contribute to familiar and understand to the system.The current FRAM has deficiencies in application process of accident analysis,mainly in: no defined application type of the method,no specific method of functions identification,no perfected FRAM diagram,and no definition on how to determine the resonance between functions.For the above mentioned deficiencies,the study presents the theory and basic principles of FRAM,defines the application type of the method from the perspective of system analysis.The study also combines STEP and FRAM with the method of literature review as a specific method of system function identification.Consistency and integrity are used to improve the construction of the FRAM diagram,and system failure to determine the function resonance.The study also defines the specific application steps and analysis process of the improved FRAM.To show the specific application steps and analysis process of FRAM,the 𛴥2攅xplosion accident was chosen and analysis,then compares the results of FRAM with the results of the accident investigation report.The result showed that FRAM brokethe traditional way of thinking that accident result was oriented,from the perspective of normative operation procedures of system function,FRAM determine the function resonance through the identify variability in the performance of the function and FRAM diagram,so as to study the mechanism of accident.The improving FRAM is more specification in the application,which is a good guidance on how to analysis the system factors,identify the factors of the accident function resonance accurately,then satisfy the need to explain how the process the accident.
