The technique of Gel Permeation Chromatography(GPC)has developed since the mid-1960 s as a new type of liquid-phase separation technique.GPC is presently the most effective technology to determine the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polymers,and according to hydrodynamic volume,to determine and separate the mixture of all molecular compounds,which concerns with petroleum products,crude oil,medical polymers,engineering materials,resin coating and biodegradable materials and many other areas.The processing and performance of polymers and many raw materials is related with its molecular weight and molecular weight distribution,and the molecular structure of its composition and aggregation status.It’s of great importance to learn how to implement GPC/SEC to determine polymer molecular weight,and molecular structure quickly and accurately,which will provide scientific evidence for controlling polymerization process,improving product quality and rationalizing the processing conditions.The paper mainly focuses on the application of GPC/SEC in energy chemical industry,to analyze molecular weight,molecular weight distribution of polymers and molecular structure,aiming to provide scientific and effective data for energy and chemical production.Presently,the polymer products play an increasingly important role in daily life and manufacture as well.It’s the key to acquire the performance of polymers in order to design the materials with appropriate performance in specific application,as the analysis of raw materials is crucial for the development and manufacture of polymer products.The paper,by comparing the present specific techniques of Gel Permeation Chromatography,illustrates how to analyze the performance of polymers by GPC/SEC in case studies,and its significance in energy and chemical production.
