With development and communication of modern culture,excessive reference to and application of foreign cultures and elements in home design leads to gradual ignorance of domestic national arts,loss of spiritual connotation and artistic charm of traditional culture.Cabinet exists everywhere in living environment of modern home furnishing.As the most practical furniture,it is of great importance to combine its functionality and artistic quality.The paper will explore into application of traditional Chinese cabinet in overall home design.It respectively studies styles,modeling characteristics,engraving patterns,and implied messages of traditional Chinese cabinet,so as to contribute to innovative design in traditional Chinese cabinet.It aims to retrieve national features that are missing.As an important part of home furnishing,cabinet design should represent independence and uniqueness of traditional design,and present national features.By means of material collection,market investigation,field survey,and practices,the author combines modeling elements,structure elements of traditional cabinet with culture,and then designs a set of interior auxiliary Chinese cabinet represented by cupboard,shoe case,wardrobe,wine chest,and bathroom closet.By summarizing styles of traditional cabinet,the author gets to know that cabinet diversity starts from Ming Dynasty.Under the impact of Confucianism and Taoism in ancient times,cabinet design at that time is solemn,introvert,and sedate.It is characterized by fewer decorations,concise cabinet body,and grandness.Therefore,innovative design mainly extends and evolves from cabinet in Ming Dynasty while combining modernized techniques and devices.It analyzes various cabinets and refines elements from modeling characteristics of traditional cabinets,then expands and applies these elements to modeling design of cabinets.By investigation in Dongyang Rosewood Furniture Factory,the author screens out engraving patterns,and finally decides to use the most symbolic dragon pattern of Chinese nation as decoration pattern in cabinet design.Later,the author draws drafts and screens dragon patterns after gathering.Research result of the paper is to apply Chinese classical culture,traditional art,composing parts to innovative design of cabinet at the same time.Besides,it unifies colors and design elements of cabinets of the five categories to apply to overall home design,in order to attach importance to traditional culture,traditional art,and its elements.In overall domestic life,cabinet can endow spatial environment with artistic flavor and cultural connotation.
