Form grinding is a commonly used finish machining processes in the industrial production. First, the grinding wheel should be dressed into the reverse profile which is in accordance with the workpiece surface completely, then this grinding wheel is used to grind the workpiece to the required shape. Due to the grinding wheel surface and the processing workpiece surface contact completely, the formed grinding wheel's form accuracy, dimensional accuracy, surface quality will directly affect the final machining precision of the processed workpiece. Therefore, the research of the formed grinding wheel dressing processing is one of the emphasis to improve the accuracy of the grinding process. The traditional grinding wheel dressing method can't satisfy the high-precision requirement of current industrial production, especially machining the formed grinding wheel with complicate profile. With the development of numerical control technology, the requirement of a grinding wheel dressing machine with high precision and high efficiency becomes urgent.In the actual manufacturing process, we just have the design drawings of the workpiece and the parameters of the parts while the parameters of the formed grinding wheel are unknown. So how to obtain the parameters of the formed grinding wheel from the workpiece's parameters is an issue that needs to be addressed urgently.Based on the theory and technology of the grinding wheel dressing, this paper develops a grinding wheel dressing system with “PC+ACS motion controller” combining with grinding wheel dressing, reconsitution and CNC technology. Details are listed below:(1) Researched on the operating principles and features of the dual-driving grinding wheel dressing machine, and complete the collectivity arrangement of controls design, analyzed the function of the dressing system. Realize the overall design of the system software.(2The technology of formed grinding wheel reconstruction was researched, and realized the function of the formed grinding wheel reconstruction from the workpiece ‘s parameters.(3) Researched the technology of automatic programming and database, realized the generation of CNC processing program from the workpiece parameters and simulated CNC tool path directly, and build the database of workpiece information and CNC process program. Thus it could be used conveniently, and the efficiency of grinding wheel dressing would be improved.(4)Researched the properties and features of ACS motion controller and the features of ACS motion controller program, conduct the double-axis cooperation control experiment which is based on ACS motion controller to verify the feasibility of machining grinding wheel generatrix.
