Knitting industry has developed rapidly. More and more attention has been paid to design innovation of knitted garments. The proportion of knitted fabrics is increasing in the fashion show neither at home and abroad. Many brands are developing clothing categories with ethnic style. Inner Mongolia is the main producing area of cashmere and wool. It has its unique geographical and resource advantages to develop knitting industry. Nowadays, the inheritance of ethnic culture is getting more and more attention. Policies about Belt and Road Initiative are conductive to the research and development of the cultural projects which have ethnic characteristics. In all aspects of Mongolian people's daily life and activities about religion, entertainment and sports, we can see a large number of exquisite Mongolian geometric patterns. They were created by Mongolian people under long periods of productive labor and artistic practice. And they also show Mongolian distinctive artistic style and feature. This paper has an in-depth study in Mongolian geometric patterns. The paper puts composition, color, technology and materials these four aspects as the breakthrough points and combine with knitted garments to develop innovation design. Studying on Mongolian geometric patterns is a way to protect and inherit ethnic traditional culture. When we combine Mongolian geometric patterns with knitted garments to develop innovation design, we can develop knitted fabrics with Mongolian cultural characteristics. This paper fills the gaps in the study of knitted garments design specifically for the application of Mongolian geometric patterns. It not only can provide reference material for ethnic style designers and knitted garments designers, but also is significant for cultural heritage protection of minorities and the research of knitted garments.
