This study develops a kind of new modified unsaturated polyester.As one of the most important thermosetting resins,unsaturated polyester resins are investigated and widely used as glass coatings and structural adhesives fiber composites in the construction,shipbuilding,and automotive industries because of their low cost and good mechanical and chemical balance.In recent years,there is an increasing demand of polyester resins in the atomic ash fabrication industry.The purpose of the study is to reduce the production cost of unsaturated resins as well as to effectively improve their properties by adding modifiers such as flax oil,etc..The adding amount of the flax oil was studied,and with determined amount of the flax oil,the modification effect of the dicyclopentadiene(DCPD)was also investigated.Finally,the optimum process for atomic ash production was studied,and the amount of each raw material was determined.Research results show that:1.In the general production process of unsaturated resins,the flax oil can be used to replace some expensive raw materials so as to reduce the production cost but still be able to maintain good product properties.Based on a rough calculation,around 700-900 yuan of the cost can be reduced under ideal conditions.2.In the study,we finally determined the adding amount of the flax oil as a fraction of 7% of the total mass.With this flax oil content,the unsaturated resin product shows good water resistance and has a short dry time.3.We investigated the effect of the modifier of DCPD under determined flax oil adding amount.With addition of both flax oil and DCPD,the unsaturated resin with good quality can be obtained.When the DCPD has a mass fraction of 0.3 to the anhydride,the solid content and bending strength of the resin reach the maximum.The fineness of the DCPD has an effect on the quality of the product.With experimentally treated DCPD,the final product has better color and transparency.Moreover,a brief analysis of the requirements of the production process and the performance of atomic ash was conducted.The influences of accelerator,filler and inhibitor etc.on the atomic ash product were discussed.Through experiments,the adding amount of the dibasic acid is determined as 20% of the total mass,the proportion of the alcohol to the acid is determined as 1.09:1.02,and the content of the allyl ether is determined to remain as around 15%.
