The acrylic resin is made from methacrylate ?acrylics and the other olefinic monomer in the form of copolymerization.As a kind of pollution-free coating with fast development and abundant varieties,the water soluble acrylic resin has many advantages when it compared with the traditional solvent-based coatings,such as cheaper?safer and less pollution.First of all,it need to compound a kind of unsaturated polyester resin(UPR)with hydroxyl group,respectively changing the formula of unsaturated polyester resin in maleic anhydride ratio and the quality of the polyester and acrylic acid,with Neopentyl Glycol,Isophthalic Acid,Adipic Acid,Maleic Anhydride as the raw material,antimony trioxide as the catalyst.Under the certain hydroxyl value and acid value,the hydroxyl-terminated unsaturated polyester resin(UPR)would be modified by the modified monomers which consist in different ratio of hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate(HEMA),acrylic acid(AA),butyl acrylate,and methyl methacrylate(MMA),in the form of free radical reaction and neutralization reaction.In different temperature and respectively mixed with the curing agent amino resin(AR),silica sol(solid content 30%)and tertiary ethylene carbonate(VeoVa 10),the modified water-borne acrylic resin(WPUA)would be made into coatings and tested the comprehensive performance such as bibulous rate,gloss,hardness,adhesion,impact resistance and solvent resistance.The purpose is to prepare a kind of environmental protection resin with advantages of hydroxyl-terminated water based unsaturated polyester resin and acrylic resin.The experimental results show that a better performance of modified acrylic resin can be prepared when the ratio of maleic anhydride is 7% and the quality ratio of the UPR and acrylic monomers comes to be 1:0.6;when the amino resin as the curing anent is accounted for 50% of the total resin,the acrylic acid monomer dosage should be chosen in 50%;when the acrylic monomers accounts for 40%,the proportion of modified acrylic resin and amino resin should be 100:30;when Neopentyl glycol is 105.45 g,WPUA:AR=100:40,the amount of silicon sol should be 2%;when Neopentyl glycol is 100.7g,WPUA:AR=100:30,the amount of silicon sol should be 6%;As a kind of functional monomer,the Tertiary ethylene carbonate(VeoVa10)makes differences by different conditions to the solution and coatings,such as: when the WPUA:AR=100:20,the amount of the VeoVa10 should be chosen 18%,which gloss,hardness,flexibility,strength of resistance achieve the best;when the amount of VeoVa10 comes to 6%,the AR should be chosen at 50%;when the amount of VeoVa10 comes to 12%and24%,the AR should be chosen at 30%;when the amount of VeoVa10 comes to 18%,the AR should be chosen at 20%.
