Study On The Evolution Of Superman's Chevron

Superman's chevron is the shield-shaped pattern at the chest of the superman's uniform. Since 1938 when the superman's chevron was created, during the 70-year development history, the superman's chevron has developed a dozen of visual expressions. Its visual changes are closely related to the society, history, culture and even politics, demonstrating the differences of mainstream ideology, aesthetic tendencies and fashion in different eras.Through researching numerous literatures and physical materials, it combs out and analyzes the visual expressions of superman's chevron in various eras in line with the development history as well as the internal relationship and significance between visual evolution and various factors. The paper explores the relationship between the visual expressions and its corresponding cultural conditions, political incidents and trend& fashion. Through figuring out the cultural connotations of the superman's chevron, it analyzes the formation and development of its significance from the semantic angle. Based on the expressions of carriers and development characteristics of carriers'technologies, it studies the model of narration and visual expressions in the Superman series works.Conclusions are made on the design law, role, development characteristics and future trends of the visual art of the superman's chevron from the perspective of art design. Furthermore, the paper also summarizes the progressive process of the superman's chevron's visual expressions the formaitonal and development of its cultural connotaions, historic changes and the relationships of technologcal development between different carriers. Then, based on the specific analysis of its trend and development mofel, the paper, combined the local cultural context, proosies the superman's chevron's reference and inspirations on Chinese visual art in terms of local cultural backgrounds and the public's spiritual demands. The experiment is carried out to study the visual design.
