Low expansion glass is widely used in many important national economy and national defense construction field, which has its unique ultra low expansion coefficient, stable physical and chemical properties and good optical performance. Low expansion glass is an essential component of the new era of high tech field. Its quality directly affects the development of the related fields. Therefore, it is very important to study the preparation and research of low expansion glass. In this experiment, we studied the formulation of low expansion glass, and made a low expansion glass suitable for the preparation of the low expansion glass, and tested the low expansion glass. According to the study and analysis of the materials, the main raw material of silicate was designed, and the addition of other materials to change the process of melting and glass properties of the oxide, and the content of B2O3 was changed. The optimal formulation of low expansion glass was determined by using the method of melting, and the optimal formula of low expansion glass was(60-X)SiO2-XB2O3-6TiO2-5MgO-15Al2O3-2CaO-6ZnO-6Na2 O.The thermal expansion coefficient of low expansion glass is minimum 3.328×10-7/℃, which is in accordance with the expectation of the low expansion coefficient of glass by X=9. And then test the other optical and physical properties of the glass with good low expansion coefficient. The transformation temperature, softening temperature, transmittance and absorption rate of the glass in the lowest expansion coefficient were tested and analyzed. meanwhile, the expansion coefficient, refractive index, density and hardness of the glass are compared and analyzed, The other properties of different low expansion glass need to be analyzed.
