NC turret is a key component of the CNC machine, and the overall performance of CNC machines are affected by its quality, which directly reflects the country's level of CNC machines manufacturing. It's an important way to increase the investment and research on high-end NC turrets to improve their technical level to enhance China's international status and competitiveness. Experiment is an important way to research the performance of the NC turrets, so comparative experiments were made between a domestic NC turret and an imported NC turret to research the performance, find the shortages and put forward suggestions for the domestic NC turret in this paper. The main contents are as follows:(1) The structure and working principles of the domestic NC turret were described, and the important technical parameters between the domestic and imported turrets were comparatively analyzed. The results show that the technological level of domestic NC turret needs to be improved, which can be optimized from the aspects of mechanical transmission structure, precision positioning mechanism, material precision and lightweight.(2) The performances of the turning noise and vibration, repeated positioning accuracy and static rigidity, were tested in basic performance test bed which is designed and comparative analyzed. The results show that the basic performances of the domestic NC turret are worse than the imported, especially the repeated accuracy which is related with material precision needs to be greatly improved. It suggested that domestic NC turret needs to be optimized from Teeth Rings, hydraulic cylinders and transmission.(3) The performances of the NC turrets in cutting conditions were comparatively studied and the time-frequency domain and wavelet analysis were used, and the results showed that the dynamic performance of domestic turret on the test machine is worse than the imported turret. The dynamic stiffness of the domestic turret needs to be improved by increasing the rigidity between the junction members and designing structure and size reasonably.(4) The effects of cutting parameters on cutting forces and cutting vibrations of turret were investigated, and the results were got by orthogonal experiment, analysis of variance and contribution rate. The results show that the domestic turret performs is worse than imported turret in the situation of heavy cutting, so when it's used, reasonable cutting parameters should be selected.
