The base frame is the important part of the continuous extrusion machinery. Considering of safety and stability, using a bigger safety factor results in steel waste. So, research on weight lighten design for base frame of continuous extrusion machinery has a vital significance, it could save steel consumption, easy for transport and reduce the cost of manufacture and transportation.The base frame was analyzed and optimized by finite element analysis software ANSYS & HyperMesh. First, a 3D geometry model of TLJ400 continuous extrusion machinery's base frame was established, then it was imported into ANSYS Workbench to get a finite element model; the analysis was carried out as two typical conditions, then the stress and deformation of the frame was investigated. Based on the results of simulation, several structural improvement projects was proposed, and further optimized to obtain a more light base frame model with GDO method, finally strength and stiffness of the lighten structure had been improved.After the computer simulation process, a dynamic strength test was made to get test results to proof the numerical model. Compared with test results and simulation results proved the veracity of simulation results and finite element model.To find out the weight lighten design, the GDO(Goal Driven Optimization) methods was employed to build the parametrical models. Set the base frame's weight as objective function, and the main size as design variables, the material's equivalent stress and deflection as constraint condition to optimize the geometric body. Always check the base frame's strength and stiffness during optimization and confirm it was satisfied with the design request. The optimized result showed that it's weight reduced 707.9kg,as 13.4% in ratio, and strength and stiffness still met the requirements. The research conclusion provided support data for continuous extrusion machinery'design, and proved the finite element analysis technology forcefully helped design.
