In order to find out the influence factor of the mechanical peeling property of the oxide scale,which formed on the surface of high carbon steel wire rod after spinning,the cooling process of wire rod between spinning and coiling was simulated through the experiment in the laboratory.Oxide scale with different thickness and tissue content was obtained by controlling the cooling process,the microstructure of the oxide scale was observed by scanning electron microscope,and the peeling property of oxide scale of high carbon steel wire rod was measured by bending test.By analyzing the relationship between cooling process and organization structure of oxide scale,the formation of FeO and Fe3O4 in iron scale was noticed and each amount of them affected the peeling property of oxide scale;FeO and Fe3O4 performed a plastic deformation behavior at high temperature,which had an influence on the quality of the bonding between iron oxide and matrix;FeO in oxide scale of the sample precipitated Fe3O4 under certain conditions,which definitely affected the stripping property of the oxide scale.By studying on the physical model of bending deformation,it was found that the stripping process of the oxide scale was influenced by different stress characteristics;and the failure strain and peel strain of the oxide scale were calculated,which provides a reference for the design of the stripping process of the oxide scale in industrial production.According to the experimental conclusion and the analysis of iron scale data under former producing process,an improved process for the main purpose of increasing the thickness of the oxide scale was proposed,and the result showed that the thickness of the oxide scale of production sample has been stabilized at 12μm,and oxide scale in the strip zone has been removed completely from the matrix after bending test,which reached the preset production target.
