Bend test is a way of testing bend plastic deformability of metallic materials and provides guarantee for the plastic forming processing of metal. In terms of austenitic stainless steel materials used for strain strengthening cryogenic pressure vessels, bend plastic deformability of materials is an important factor for its performance testing.The paper is supported by the key projects in the National High Technology Research and Development Program (863Program, Project No.:2009AA044801). Basing on a large number of domestic and foreign literature, finite element analysis and experimental study of austenitic stainless steel materials from strain strengthening cryogenic pressure vessels is designed to research the effects of different bend pressure heads on plastic deformability of austenitic stainless steel. The paper is aimed to provide a reference for bend test methods. The main contents of this article include:(1) Taking into account the influence of material nonlinearity, geometric nonlinearity and boundary conditions nonlinearity, nonlinear numerical simulation of the bend test is established.(2) A series tests of the specimens with different thicknesses bended by the2times bend head or the4time bend head is conducted. Comparison of test results with simulation results verifies the rationality of the nonlinear finite element analysis model, also confirms the validity of the results of the simulation.(3) By contrasting the bend elongation with the tensile elongation of different thickness of specimens and the effects of2times bend head or4times bend head, a proposal could be achieved that2times bend head should be used for the bend test of austenitic stainless steel materials from strain strengthening cryogenic pressure vessels to make comprehensive tests on the bend plastic deformability of metallic materials.
