Potential failure mode and effects analysis(FMEA) is a widely used analytical tool in quality management which can be used to evaluate quality risk during product design and trial production so that appropriate preventive measures can be taken to reduce the possibility of product failure. Mistake proofing method use special devices to reduce or eliminate errors especially human errors in production process. The application of Potential failure mode and effects analysis, in combination with mistake proofing, can effectively eliminate the product defects and improve product quality and customer satisfaction.Lubricants manufacturing has highly mechanized industrial processes with high quality risk for its own industrial characteristics. Based on determining the main cause of process failure from production process FMEA analysis, adopting preventive or detective measures with the application of mistake proofing, the purpose of this study is to reduce the risk of process failure and improve product quality.By means of literature review, experience sum-up and the combination of case study and systematical analysis method, this thesis discusses the application of FMEA and Mistake-proofing in lubricant manufacturing. Firstly, this thesis summarizes the theories, concepts and implementation methods of FMEA and mistake proofing and discusses the FMEA role in identifying potential quality risk and mistake proofing's role in eliminating human error. Then the thesis introduces the necessity of the application of FMEA and mistake proofing in B Company by detailed quality problems analysis and the FMEA introduction process. Finally, analyzes the application of FMEA and mistake proofing on new product RX TURBO 15W-40 and studies the potential failure mode and the establishment of the mechanism of mistake proofing in lubricants manufacturing.This study effectively reduces the quality risk in lubricants production by process FMEA analysis and improvement on process failure caused by human error, which can provide useful references for other companies.
