Azo liquid crystal. due to its high clearing point, the liquid crystalline state is more stable. It gets more and more attention. At present, the side chain liquid crystal polymers containing azo groups information storage materials research has made great progress. In this thesis, Three kinds of azo liquid crystal monomers and 16 kinds of azo-star LCD macromolecules were designed and sythesised. Characteristics of them were carrier out by POM, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DSC. In this paper, the dual LCD macromolecular synthesis and new azo star-shaped liquid crystal polymer research work for further study, It not only enriched the kinds of new type of liquid crystal compounds, but also offered a theoretical basis for the design and synthesis of side-chain liquid crystal polymer specific properties. At the same time, it laid the foundation of the application of the new side-chain liquid crystal polymers. In this paper, the synthetic azo star-shaped liquid crystal polymers and two series azo liquid crystal molecules has not been reported.Three kinds of azo liquid crystal monomers are:allyloxy-benzoyloxy azo acid cholesteryl ester (Ma), eleven alkenoyloxy benzoyloxy azo acid cholesteryl esters (Mb) and Allyloxy-benzoyloxy on nitroazobenzene (Mc), P1 and P2 two series copolymer were created by using Poly methyl hydrogen siloxane with Ma and Mb, Mb and Mc, respectively. They are interconversion of thermotropic liquid crystal polymers. With the content of liquid crystal monomer Mb reducing, the clearing point of the polymer P1 and P2 series overall increasing trend.Azo star macromolecules LCD arm, respectively:4-para nitroazobenzene alkyloxyethyl formyl pentanoic acid (A),4-para nitroazobenzene alkyloxyethyl formyl nonanoic acid (B), 4-carbethoxy azobenzene alkyloxyethyl formyl pentanoic acid (C) and 4-carbethoxy azobenzene alkyloxyethyl formyl nonanoic acid (D). Among them, A LCD arm is interconvert nematic liquid crystal, B is single phase nematic liquid crystal.The four arms respectively created with phloroglucinol, pentaerythritol, glucose, xylose, and formed multi-arm star-shaped liquid crystal compound obtained. They were:tris (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pentanoic acid) phloroglucinol ester (M]), tris (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pelargonic acid) phloroglucinol ester (M2), tris (4-oxygen to second formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pentanoic acid) phloroglucinol ester (M3), tris (4-oxygen to second formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pelargonic acid) phloroglucinol ester (M4), four (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pentanoic acid) pentaerythritol ester (M5), four (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pelargonic acid) pentaerythritol ester (M6), four (4-ethoxy formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pentanoic acid) pentaerythritol ester (M7), four (4-ethoxy formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pelargonic acid) pentaerythritol ester (M8), four (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pentanoic acid) xylose ester (M9), four (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pelargonic acid) xylose ester (M10), four (4-ethoxy formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pentanoic acid) xylose ester (M11), four (4-ethoxy formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pelargonic acid) xylose ester (M12), five (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pentanoic acid) glucose ester (M13), five (4-nitro oxygen azobenzene formyl pelargonic acid) glucose ester (M14), five (4-ethoxy formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pentanoic acid) glucose ester (M15) and five (4-ethoxy formyl azobenzene oxygen formyl pelargonic acid) glucose ester (M16). Chondrules, schlieren and silky texture were appeared in the heating and cooling process of all azo star-shaped liquid crystal macromolecules, combined with its molecular structure, conclude that they were interconversion nematic liquid crystal.
