In recent years, low oil consumption and emission cars are becoming more and more popular for energy conservation and environmental protection. And to achieve this goal, vehicle lightweight is most useful. Hot stamping of high strength steel has the characteristics of light weight, high strength,and it becomes the most effective and relatively low cost way to increase body strength and security and light weight at the same time.The main characteristic of hot stamping is quenching and stamping at the same time. Send the high strength steel plate which has been heated above austenitic temperature into hot stamping die, which has cooling channels inside. The steel will be harden by quenching when stamping, austenite will turn into martensite and the strength will be highly increased. Therefore, the core of the hot stamping technology lies in the internal cooling system, it directly affect the quenching effect and the performance product. Nowadays, the design of the cooling system mainly rely on manual design, so the designer's technical level and experience will highly affect the quality of cooling system. In addition, it's hard to improve design quality and efficiency, because of the complex structure of cooling system.In this paper, cooling channel design process is divided into three main parts including, the design of the cooling hole, design of cooling channel lines and design of cooling channels. Analyze characteristics of die block head face by curvature of edge curve, and realize the automatic design of cooling hole according to the triangular arrangement method. The cooling channel lines are divided into straight-through type and T type, and discrete temporary channel lines to calculate distance between discrete points and die surface in order to identify the characteristics of die cavity surface, so as to realize the conformal design of cooling channels. Combining the advantages of throughout cooling channel and block-independent cooling channel, hybrid type of cooling channel is put forward to meet the design of various types of hot stamping die cooling systems.Through the above research works, a cooling channel design system for high strength hot stamping die is developed based on UG/NX platform. It can help designers to improve quality and efficiency of cooling system design for high strength steel hot stamping.
