Besed on thirty eight years of Argos drifting buoys data which sail located at the depth of 15 m from 1979 to 2017,we analyzed the annual and half-yearly,seasonal and monthly averaged characteristics of the Kuroshio and the Gulf Stream adjacent areas surface current field, and we also compared their main current field characteristics. The analysis shows that, the Kuroshio and the Gulf Stream are the same in terms of geographic latitude, dynamic mechanism, slope deflection support, flow pattern and hydrological characteristics, while there are obvious differences in the origin of water bodies and the westward branches. The flow paths of the Kuroshio and the Gulf Stream are composed of several anti-cyclone bending and cyclonic bending and straight sections, and there are differences in the flow distance between them. Both the flow paths of the Kuroshio and the Gulf Stream with curved or transitional areas are weaker than relatively straight sections, and the flow section with largest velocity of the Kuroshio is located in the south of Shikoku Island and Honshu Island, while the largest velocity of the Gulf Stream is located in the eastern section of the Florida Peninsula. Both the Kuroshio and the Gulf Stream gradually leave the shoreline and flow to the ocean near 35°N,and the velocity gradually decreases after leaving the coast. The seasonal and monthly changes in the invasion to the marginal sea of Kuroshio are obvious, the intrusion of the Kuroshio in winter was significant in the Bashi Channel, the northeastern of Taiwan Island and the northern part of the East China Sea,and the flow path is more twisted during the winter months(December to February),while it is relatively straight in the summer months(June to August)because the invasion to the marginal sea is weak, and spring and autumn are transitional seasons. The phenomenon of inward invasion to the marginal sea of the Gulf Stream is not obvious. The overall velocity of the Gulf Stream is stronger than that of the Kuroshio, and the seasonal variation of the velocity is obvious. Both of them show that the summer months have the highest current velocity, while it is weakest in the winter months, and the transitional characteristics are obvious in spring and autumn.
