The 1748 Map of Rome,by Giambattista Nolli is widely regarded by scholars as one of the most important historical documents of the city ever created.The Nolli Map serves to geo-reference a vast body of information to better understand the Eternal City and its key role in shaping Western Civilization.It is not accidental that Nolli can complete such a profile.Starting from the third century BC,the ancient Romans had been trying to create the method of recording the outline of the city,from the initial "Forma Urbis Romae" city map,to the middle ages popular itineraire dit "I 'd' Einsiedeln",and then to Maliani'map,the first pure ichnography city plan,Rome cartography development has experienced from a scientific and measurable form to the grahic,pictoral form,then return back to the scientific style.After this,the Roman cartography ushered in the era of rationalism,after the remorseless efforts of many scholars,it reached its peak in the 18th century.The summit was composed of three Italian men,Nolli,Vasi and Piranesi.The three contemporary cartographers,captured the city in a distinct way,and at the same time each of them has a great connection with the others,the lack of any of the three one,for the image of the city,are incomplete.If you go to study the map,you will find a fantastic world,for the map can hold numerous species of content,meaning and form type,it can cover quite a lot of space and time,and this is controlled by its author.This article studies from the Empire era continued to the 18th century Rone,the city map of development and evolution,on the one hand,probes into the important moment of the process,results,and the great feats of star cartographer,on the one hand,and to explore the form of different kinds of map the profound meaning behind it.
