Since 2010,a total of 8 earthquakes which magnitude more than 8 occurred in the world.The earthquake has been the focus of scholars study at home and abroad.With the development of economy,the impact of the earthquake on the city is becoming more and more severe.The application of remote sensing technology to the study of thermal anomalies before earthquakes can be divided into two parts.One is the research on the internal mechanism and the preparation process of the thermal anomaly on the earthquake.The other is to detect and study the thermal anomalies before the earthquake by means of different remote sensing techniques.Before the mechanism in the seismogenic process and the cause of the thermal anomaly cannot be fully understood,it is particularly important to use different technology in monitoring and studying the thermal anomalies before earthquakes.Compared with other band microwave has its unique advantage,which can make up for the lack of other bands and better detect the abnormal thermal activity in the process of seismic.It was experimentally confirmed that microwave energy is emitted during the compression of rocks.The microwave energy generated by rock failures was detected at 300 MHZ,2 GHZ,and 22 GHZ in rock-failure experiments.The analysis of satellite remote sensing data found that there may be abnormal microwave radiation before several earthquakes.This important discovery in urgent need of universal inspection and statistical analysis.In this paper,multiple channels brightness temperature data observed by AMSR-E during nine years(2003~2011)are collected.In order to prove the abnormal phenomenon of microwave radiation before earthquakes,the earthquake of Lake Baykal in August 27,2008 is selected as a case study.Based on the existed anomaly detection methods,this paper presents two methods,image difference method and anomaly statistics method,which can be used to detect thermal anomaly by microwave band.As a result,two definitive microwave radiation anomalies were detected around the epicenter before the 2008 Lake Baykal earthquake by using the two methods.After single earthquake,the Kamchatka Peninsula with multiple earthquakes was selected as the study area try to summarize the characteristics of the microwave anomalies and statistical analysis.First of all,the temporal and spatial variation of microwave brightness temperature in the Kamchatka Peninsula and the influence of volcanic activity on this study are analyzed.After selecting the appropriate research area and time,the microwave radiation anomalies before all the strong earthquake over the past 9 years(2003~2011)was studied by using the improved method of statistics identification and the construction of the background field.The results show that there are 13 times in the 17 earthquakes that can be identified before earthquakes and all the earthquakes which magnitude over 6 can detect the anomaly.Microwave radiation anomalies occurred within 1 month before the earthquake and appeared in a range around the epicenter.
