Airy pulses propagation is one of the important subjects of optical research field in recent years.Compared to conventional symmetric Gaussian and hyperbolic secant pulses,Airy pulses are not only an asymmetric wave packets, but also have unique properties,as self-acceleration/self-deceleration,dispersion-free and self-healing properties. These unique properties lead to display new features during Airy pulses propagation, and also provide a new degree of freedom for manipulating nonlinear optical effects. This paper is devoted to investigate analytically and numerically the propagation dynamics of Airy pulses with an initial modulation. In this paper, the main research contents and results are as follows:Airy pulse with an initial frequency chirp can be realized by imparting frequency modulation on their input spectrum. This modulation method makes the temporal profile of Airy pulses unchanged, but its spectral distribution is determined by the chirp parameter. Its spectrum distribution changes from the Gaussian to the Airy distribution. It is shown that the propagation characteristics depend on whether the second order dispersion parameter and the chirp are the same or different. When their signs are the same, the chirped Airy pulses first undergoes the compression process, then reaches the collapse area, and then forms a new Airy pulses in the opposite direction of transmission. When their signs are opposite, the chirped Airy pulses always spread during the propagation owing to the dispersion effect. The results are published on Optics Express.By imposing quadratic phase modulation on the spectrum of incident Airy pulses, their spectral distribution is invariant, but their temporal distribution is determined by the quadratic phase modulation. It is shown that,in the linear regime, the self-accelerating and self-deceleration characteristics of such modulated Airy pulses depend on whether the signs of the second-order dispersion and the quadratic phase modulation are the same or opposite. When they have same signs, the modulated Airy pulses is accelerated(or decelerated)after deceleration(or acceleration); When they have opposite signs, the modulated Airy pulses are always accelerated(or decelerated).Under the combined action of anomalous dispersion and Kerr nonlinearity, the acceleration of shedding solitons from such modulated Airy pulse depends on whether the quadratic phase modulation is positive or negative. This provides a new method for controlling solitons acceleration or deceleration in the absence of high-order linear and nonlinear effects. The results are published in Scientific Reports.
