Using 10y FY2C/E satellite data from 2006 to 2015, the multi threshold method is used to identify and classify the convective cloud in Jianghuai area. The results show that there is a good relationship between the frequency of convective activity and topography in Jianghuai area, and the frequent area is in the southern mountainous area, Dabie Mountain area, Poyang Lake area and the Yangtze River plain. The frequent time of convective activity in this area is during the summer,from June to August, which is the same as that of the main flood season. In the afternoon, there is a high frequency of convective activity, and there is a certain degree of nocturnal occurrence in the early morning. To understand the law of merger process, an objective judgment for convective cloud merger is designed,which is used to investigate the merger process of the convective cloud in the research area for 10 years first, and then to find the spatial and temporal distribution of merger and analyze its effect on the strength, size and shape of cloud. The results show that the frequent region is the Yangtze River Plain, which is a transitional zone between two different types of terrain, with a frequent period from June to August,and August is higher than in June. After the merger, 60% of the minimum brightness temperature of convective cloud decreases, about 80% of cloud area increases, 80%of the shape of the clouds becomes slender, and the probability of the average brightness temperature unchanged is very low. A merger phenomenon was found at 19:03 on July 8, 2007 (world time). Combined with the regional fusion of hourly precipitation data to analyse, it's clear that the cloud precipitation increased 91.2mm after the merger. Compared with the rainfall between convective cloud merging and no merging, it found that the total rainfall for the former is lager than the later, and the value is 110.1mm. It's showed that the merger process makes the increase in precipitation, and it also illustrates the feasibility of this identification method for convective cloud merge.
