Xinjiang belongs to arid and semi-arid area, but the annual snowfall is increasing year by year. The snowfall is helpful to alleviate the shortage of water resources in this area, and the snowfall and snow covers are valuable water resources in Xinjiang. In this study takes Urumqi city as an example, analysis concentration and spatial distribution of pollutants in snowfall and snow cover in Urumqi, and pollution level was evaluated on the basis of relevant standards, Provide a reference basis for reasonable utilization of snowfall and snow cover.Snowfall and snow cover which is from different sampling points and functional zones in Urumqi city were sampled and detected. Determine the14 types of water quality(Including: pH, conductivity, turbidity, colority, total hardness, calcium hardness, chloride, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen,COD, BOD5, DO, volatile phenol)monitoring indexes and analyze the snow fall and snow cover according to the detection and analysis method for the water and waste water(4th edition). SPSS17.0, Excel2003,SingmaPlot10.0 were used to analyze the contaminant concentration in snow fall and snow cover and their distribution in Urumqi city. Research results show that:(1) Physiochemical characteristics of snow cover in Urumqi: Ph of snow cover presents the weakly basic and basic character at each sampling point in January 2013 and January 2014. The average pH range snow cover is between 7.15~9.98, conductivity range of snow cover is 0.47~4.74?S/cm, turbidity range is0.42~3.60 NTU, colority range is 5~30 degree, total hardness range is 28.63~175.42mg/L, calcium range is7.80~68.19mg/L, chloride concentration range is 8.42~43.52mg/L, ammonia nitrogen concentration range is 0.13~0.65mg/L, nitrate nitrogen range is 0.81~1.67mg/L, nitrite nitrogen concentration range is 0.33~0.87mg/L, DO concentration range is7.29~9.60mg/L, COD concentration range is11.62~45.75mg/L, BOD5 concentra tion range is 4.68~7.76mg/L, volatile phenol concentration range is 0.001~0.074mg/L.(2) Physiochemical characteristics of snowfall in Urumqi: The average p H range of snowfall is 6.83~7.27, conductivity range of snowfall is 0.35~2.13?S/cm, turbidity range is 0.35~1.60 NTU, colority range is3.00~10.00 degree, total hardness range is 17.95~63.58mg/L, calcium hardness range is 17.95~63.58mg/L,chloride concentration range is 4.44~14.74mg/L, ammonia nitrogen concentration range is 0.11~0.32mg/L,nitrate nitrogen range is 0.48~0.86mg/L, nitrite nitrogen concentration range is 0.26~0.43mg/L, DO concen-tration range is 7.01~8.39 mg/L, COD concentration range is 8.88~24.08mg/L, BOD5 concentration range is 3.91~5.89mg/L, volatile phenol concentration range is 0.03~0.05mg/L.(3)Variation and comparison of the physiochemical properties of snowfall and snow cover in Urumqi.Concentration of physiochemical index of snowfall and snow cover which is from 10 sampling points were compared, chemical properties of snow cover more changed than snowfall's, results shows that: except the water quality index of volatile phenol, all indexes higher than snowfall. It can be seen that the content of pollutants in snowfall and snow cover may be related to the length of exposure time and the surrounding environment; the exposure time of snow cover is longer than snowfall so various pollutants are easily adsor-bed and collected in snow cover.
