Urban village is a unique phenomenon formed by the swift process of Chinese urbanization. The extensive expansion of a city drastically conflicts with the social structure and economic pattern of villages on the outskirts. It causes that these villages geographically located in urban scopes do not fit into the rapid grown city in terms of the regional development pattern and the economic and social status. Because of the long-term existence of the rural-urban dual structure, the villages often become outside of the urban unified planning and management. Though situated in the midst of the urban area, they are still "rural". Meanwhile they have become the breeding grounds for economic, social and environmental problems. They get in the way of the long-term development of the area and accelerating process of its urbanization. From the perspective of economics and management, this essay points out the current issues and causes of the villages inside the rapid urbanization area. It then comprehensively compares several major types of urban-village transformation. Taking Q Town Shanghai as example, it discusses the feasibility of the reconstruction of villages in cities through regional resources integration, unified planning adjustment, and overall capital management, and presents relative strategies and suggestions. Through the research, I hope to give the theoretical support for government decision-making and to provide reference for the smooth implementation of urban village reconstruction.
