Economic development can contribute to large scale develop and utilize of energy, energy is not only the impetus for economic development, but also the obstacles of economic development, with the important non-renewable energy will gradually run out, and the energy consumption will bring ecological and environmental problems, those are serious impediment to further economic development.In recent years, with the rapid development of Hunan economy, dependence on energy increased significantly. Hunan Province is now in a critical period of economic construction, the economic structure, urbanization, consumption structure has undergone significant changes. A correct understanding of the relationship between economic growth and energy consumption, and to solve the contradiction between economic growth and energy consumption, and is currently a focus of economic work in Hunan and even the coming period, but also to ensure sound and rapid economic development in Hunan a very urgent task.Using theoretical and empirical method of combining the use of the 1998-2012 annual time series data, the use of econometric models and the Excel and Eviews6.0 software to study the relationship between economic growth and energy consumption in Hunan Province. Conducted a descriptive analysis of the relevant status quo with the theoretical, empirical analysis separately from the total energy consumption and the structure and the relationship between economic growth reveals the dynamic relationship of Hunan economic growth and energy consumption, and put forward the policy recommendations.
