The warehouse management of manufactured elevator is an integrated process based on “manufacture managed inventory & direct delivery”. Due to the fluctuating demand of warehouse operation, incomplete operating plan and lack of efficiency management system of the terminal clients, resource waste has become a critical issue in H Elevator’s warehouse management process. Well-targeted improvement initiatives for the optimization of locations, operators and facilities, which directly improves service quality, are of much practical significance. This paper qualitatively describes the overall situation, problems and causes in H Elevator’s warehouse management process, then undertakes a quantitative analysis of operation capacity and demand. Specifically, this paper focuses on two critical operating positions: crane operator and forklift operator. Daily operation activities are divided into unloading, receiving, picking and loading. Distribution and urgency level of warehouse operation demand are presented by the hour. An Arena unloading/loading simulation model based on queueing theory and man-hour quota standard is established to calculate service level and demand of resources(space, number of operators, etc.) for unloading/loading activities. Combing the results with the theoretical man-hour demand of receiving and picking, this paper analyzes the factors that bring on the differences between the theoretical values to the actual data of H Elevator. In conclusion, improvement initiatives in three aspects are presented: reducing the uncertainty of warehouse operation demand, regulating operation standards and optimizing shift schedule. A forecast of the improvement effect is presented based on the simulation model and man-hour calculations. These findings provide a scientific reference for H Elevator’s warehouse management. Though there are some limitations in this study, it represents a breakthrough from the old management thinking, which the managers’ subjective consciousness plays a significant role in decision-making process, to a modern perspective.
