The Cultivated Land Preservation System in China is the most stringent cultivated land protection system. However, the practice result of cultivated land preservation is not satisfactory. There are more and more local governments explore to set up the economic compensation of cultivated land protection system, but the real effects are not obvious. It’s important to encourage public participate the protection tasks under the lead of government, because of more and more construction land encroach cultivated land. There are a large number of research on protecting cultivated land compensation mechanism, public participation mechanism of academic, but the empirical research on protection of arable land for urban residents cognition, willingness to pay and its influencing factors is still less.This paper analyzes the current situation and problems which are cultivated land economic compensation of Guangdong province. And found out that the source of funds in compensation practice was single, which resulted in raising the government’s pressure. The implementation of the compensation did not reach to the designated position and the compensation standard was lack of rationality. By using of the questionnaire survey to get the data of citizens’ willingness to pay for cultivated land preservation compensation from Guangdong province.Set up a model to analyze the influencing factor of residents’ willingness to pay for the compensation by using Binary Logistics regression analysis method.The results indicated that more than half of the citizens are willing to pay for the farmland preservation compensation and the average paying price is 138 yuan per year for one family. Willingness to pay for urban residents to protect cultivated land compensation is not only affected by social and economic conditions of residents, but also by the cognitive and attitude of protection. The influencing factors of farmland preservation compensation include the proportion of food expenditure, the attitude of farmland preservation by the whole society, farmer’s identity, the time of leaving the agricultural production, gender, cognitive of impact for family life from cultivated land change and its role. The proportion of food expenditure has a reverse impact on willingness to pay, on the contrast, the other influencing factors have a positive impact on it.
