With the deepening of economic globalization, cultural industry is developing rapidly with the rich cultural connotation and the innovative industrial form. Cultural industry has become a powerful driving force of economic development. China’s export of cultural products has gradually become a new economic growth point of the export sector. Therefore, it’s of great practical significance for China’s economic development to study how to promote the export of cultural products. The paper applies comparative advantage, economies of scale, similar demand, intraindustry trade and competitive advantage theory to account for cultural trade. We define the concepts of cultural products as core cultural products. In the past, studies on trade situation focus on trade competitiveness index. The paper studies export scale of China’s exported cultural products from the total and classification exports and proportion. Then we discuss the market structure from the number of export markets, the level of market revenue, market concentration ratio, Hector fender-Hector seaman index, diversity index and Lawrence index. The results show that the development of category products is not balanced and the structure deterioration due to increasingly concentrated export market. Preliminary analysis of the cause of the problem is cultural barriers, lack of human resources, insufficient capital investment and the level of economy and technology of the demand side. The paper introduces the trade gravity model. On the basis of explanatory variables of economic factors, we add cultural, talents, capital and technology factors which lead to export issues to the basic form of the gravity model. We explain the mechanism of action and obtain an expanded cultural trade gravity model. It lays the foundation for empirical analysis of the next chapter. Then this paper selects variables and panel data of 18 countries during 2004-2013 as sample and establishes expanded cultural trade gravity model to do empirical test. Then we get a good fitting result: significant positive factors of China’s cultural products exports in descending order is Chinese cultural expenses of state financial expenditure, GDP per capita in the importing countries, Chinese per capita GDP, ICT penetration levels in importing countries, Chinese university entrance rate and the number of Chinese cultural industry employees who have the senior title. A significant negative correlation is cultural distance between China and the importing countries. According to the obtained regression equation, the paper simulates the potential exports of Chinese cultural products on 18 sample countries during 2004-2013. The sample is divided into potential for pioneering countries and trade sufficient countries by comparing with the actual exports. Hong Kong of China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Brazil, Russia and Belgium are potential of pioneering countries. The United States, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Nigeria and Mexico are trade sufficient countries. Finally, the paper puts forward 5 suggestions through current situation analysis, theoretical analysis and empirical analysis. We ought to increase government support, adjust the export market structure, improve the income level of residents, highlight the importance of talents training and pay attention to the role of culture.
