The Employment Status Investigation And Service Strategy Analysis Of Female Landless Farmers

In the process of urbanization, due to urban construction and other reasons, more and more farmers lost their land and their employment and re-employment problems have become increasingly severe. And because of the "urban-rural dual structure" and sex discrimination in employment, female landless farmers face more serious employment difficulties and need further attention.This paper made a review on the landless farmers’ employment policies in Nan-tong Economic and Technological Development Area(briefed as NETDA)..It divided the thirty years from the beginning of NETDA to now into four historical stages and summarized the characteristics of the policies in the social background of their formation and various changes made to conform to political and economic reform of each stage, such as from a government job placement mainly to encouraging self-employment or starting a business and from resettlement youth only to encouraging the employment of the older. The paper also made a brief description of the female landless farmers and their employment situation in current.This paper designed a questionnaire survey about the female landless farmers’ employment status on the basis of summarizing literature and consulting theoretical knowledge. Based on the collation and analysis of the survey data, the paper summarized the employment situation of the female landless farmers in NETDA: the employment rate had been improved after the requisition of land, most of the female landless farmers found a job or started a business by themselves, their jobs were less of technical content and the income of work were less than the local average wages, most of the jobs were steady and the job satisfaction was good, and some of them had entrepreneurial willingness.In the process of finishing the questionnaire data, the paper found the female landless farmers need more employment training and government support in the course of employment. And they also need to increase their employment or entrepreneurial intention and to extend the channel of employment. Furthermore, female landless farmers also suffered sex discrimination in employment.Through the analysis of the causes for the employment problem of female landless farmers, it gives suggestions on how to further improve the employment situation of female landless farmers in five aspects, such an, to enhance the female landless farmers’ employment or entrepreneurial intention and their employment ability, to improve the laws and public policies that strengthen female employment by government, to give employment assistance by community and social organizations, to encourage the enterprises hiring more female landless farmers and to use the mass media to promote employment.
