In recent years, automobile production, sales and ownership in China maintain rapid growth, but the increasing volume of production and sales bring about much pressure on carrying capacity of resources, energy and environment. In order to ensure green ecological development of automobile products, and to promote the construction of ecological civilization in our country, relative policies were published to encourage green production and green consuming. However, there is no comprehensive evaluation index system in China. Therefore it has become a very urgent task to evaluate automobile products.In this context, this paper is based on analysis of resources, fossil energy and major pollutants in different stages of automobile production like raw materials acquisition, processing and manufacturing, operation, scrap recycling, logistics transportation, and combine mineral resources, fossil energy, and the main pollution of the environment in China at present to build green ecological evaluation index system of automobile products. It not only reflects characteristics of automotive products, but also the natural resources and ecological environment situation of China. The index system provides guidance for the governmental departments when making support policies for green car, meanwhile it provides technical support for the enterprises on green manufacturing, and provides references for consumers on green consumption.Through learning some relevant evaluation methods, two types rims of an identical commercial vehicle enterprise were selected as the research objects. We first obtain all life cycle data of objects by field research, consultation and literature reading, and then with the help of related software, we model the aluminum alloy rim and steel rim, and calculate the results. Finally CML method and CML amend method were used for characterization, we got results of ore resources, fossil energy consuming and pollution of two types of rims. The results show that ore resources consuming amount of aluminum alloy rim is larger than that of steel rim in commercial vehicle, while result of ore resources is on the contrary. As for the indexes of environment impact, GWP, AP, POCP, EP of steel rim is larger than that of aluminum alloy rim, but HTP of steel alloy rim is smaller than that of aluminum alloy rim.Furthermore, by setting the scene, it is assumed that 50% of electric power source comes from coal, 25% come from nuclear and 25% come from hydropower. The results show that the environment index of two types rim significantly decreased. Finally, through the establishment of the evaluation index system and the analysis of the relevant results, suggestions about green development were proposed.
