China Geological Survey(CGS) is an institutional entity of a professional geological survey team, as a producer and supplier of the national geological basic information and other public welfare products. With the development of research for geological minerals and geological environment and the continuously deepened degree of geological work, the demand for geological survey personnel is more urgent and a large number of outstanding such talents are urgently needed.This paper applied the theories and principles of human resource planning, adopted literature research methods, comparative research approaches and combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, analyzed and discussed in detail the CGS personnel quantity, gender ratio, educational structure, job title structure, age distribution, job category, professional structure, high level talents, talent flow and so on, finding a talent shortage and unbalanced development of different types of units. The result is that the proportion of middle-aged and senior personnel should be further improved, that professional structure should be further optimized, talent outflow of younger age and higher education phenomenon. According to the existing problems, corresponding proposals are put forward on the construction of overall talent team, cultivation of high-level talents and preventing brain drain.
