A Study On Harmonious Relationships Among Humanity, City And Market Based From Historical Perspective

Urban development is the course of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction between human, city and market.The core of new pattern urbanization is human dimension, emphasizing "people oriented". This paper tries to seek the clew of "people oriented" by investigating cities based on two functions named "city" and "marked" in eastern and western history, then we could research the interaction between human, city and market in different historic stage.By analyzing the literature, the author found that cities were externalization of human spirit from beginning of formation, and urban development was based on convergence generated from dominance hierarchy’s power and valence. Essentially, urban entities were the human spirit’s visualization. The humanism aspects of cities had its historical origin. However, in the history, the most people in cities were always in a position which the rights were poor and in the economic dependency status. The residents were lack of real citizenship, just serving as simple factors for urban development. These two kinds of functions which named "city" and "market" were weakness to residents, humanism was ejected to the edge of spirit culture of city. In the traditional urbanization guidance by the reform and opening-up policy, as typical, the barrier which peasant-worker faced when they integrated in cities manifested non-conformity relationship between human, city and market. Specifically, the "city" function, "market" function and social function were not support peasant-workers efficiently. In history, the ordinary residents were suffered from economic exploitation and their rights were suppressed, so that ordinary residents were subjected to urban development. From later Middle age, the capital logic expanded its influence gradually, and finally capital logic governed development pattern of western cities. In the urban periphery, capital eluded city regulators and extended itself to capture country resource unrestricted. In the inner area, capital rebuilt city form and development pattern to achieved goal of multiplication with its extreme corrosive power. After the First Opium War, capital remodeled urban pattern and character. Especially after the reform and opening up policy, capital logic exerted an extreme influence on development pattern of cities in China, the human oriented was extruded on aspects of urban spirit by material oriented and bureaucratic oriented. The reason of non-conformity between human, city and market is the capital logic. Based on operating characteristics of capital logic, this paper proposes to clarify unlimited sprawl of urban to weaken capital logic. In inner city, we should break the league between capital and political power, rebuilding humanism by promoting "city" function and "market" function to stimulate vitality of migrating group. And then we could achieve the goal of building humanism in cities by providing development opportunity, improving surroundings and elevating development ability. Finally, we could replace capital logic with humanism logic and create coordinating relations between human, city and market.
