| Academic entrepreneurship has attracted more and more people’s attention. The result of academic entrepreneurship is that the scientists make use of scientific and technological achievements and external resources to set up a company, and through the enterprise operation and management, scientific and technological achievements are commercialized and industrialized, we call these enterprises “academic start-upsâ€. The purpose of this study is to explore the development path of academic start-ups, and find success factors of academic start-ups, which provide some useful reference for the path selection and element acquisition in different stages of academic start-ups.This paper adopts multi-case study method,takes four typical academic start-ups such as FORWARD, Neusoft, ZHONG KE SAN HUAN and DAAN GENE as examples, the following content has mainly been studied: Firstly, on the basis of related literature at home and abroad, the concept of academic start-ups is defined, and the characteristics of academic start-ups are summarized according to the concrete circumstances of the selected sample enterprises; Secondly, through analyzing the development course of case enterprises, the paper studies the development paths of academic start-ups, concludes three typical development paths that are “cooperation-independence developmentâ€, “cooperation-cooperation development†and “independence-cooperation developmentâ€, and the factors that affect the path selection of enterprise development are analyzed; Thirdly, the paper concludes seven success factors for academic start-ups, which are “excellent academic entrepreneurâ€, “academic background of the entrepreneurial teamâ€, “support from universities or scientific research institutionsâ€, “policy support and financial support from the governmentâ€, “financing capacityâ€, “capacity of continuously launching innovative products and expanding the marketsâ€, “collaborative capability of production, marketing and researchâ€, and the mechanism among the factors is analyzed; Finally, some suggestions are made for the path selection and element acquisition of academic start-ups in China, and the future research prospects are put forward according to the shortcomings of this study. |
