With the social and economic development, as well as the rise of e-commerce markets, the express industry has gained great development. However, the courier service capacity still cannot meet the growing demand. In order to ease the contradiction between high demand and the lack of express delivery, courier companies must improve the backbone transport network, to enhance service capabilities. Therefore, the research topic is "Based on the theory of hub and spoke, to determine the scientific and reasonable transportation network layout and to optimize the network model."This paper firstly analyzes the related theory of the express industry and the hub and spoke network. According to the evaluation index of the representative literature is constructed, this paper then constructs the evaluation index system of the express transportation hub node and the layout model. Using principal component analysis, cluster analysis and gravity method to determine the national backbone transport network node layout scheme, the establishment of national hub and spoke Express backbone transport network needs to give priority to the specific area of the Yangtze River Delta region, Pearl River Delta region and Bohai, Beijing, Tianjin region. Combined with case analysis, Beijing is the North China regional transport center, and Guangzhou is the Southern China regional transport center. On the basis of the cost minimization objective, the optimization model of the cost is built, and the optimization of the main transportation network is studied. The conclusion is drawn from the Shanghai as a transport center of East China.In this paper, we use a variety of qualitative methods, including the center of gravity method, the integrated clustering analysis, to determine the layout of the trunk transport network, but also to build the optimization model. This paper provides a reference for Express main trunk transport network layout and optimization, with the empirical research of the theory of hub and spoke. Follow up on how to integrate the network resources and the operational resources around the hub nodes, improving the timeliness of express enterprises is the focus and direction of further research.
