A Study Of Problems For International Engineering Project Tendering And Implementation

Following the Go Global strategy initiated by the Chinese government, Chinese construction enterprises are increasingly started to expand to international market. However, things are not always going well in the process of expansion, and the Chinese construction enterprises have encountered a large number of unanticipated problems. This dissertation aims to study the origin of these problems and propose solutions thereto.The international engineering projects are normally divided into two phases, i.e. tender phase and implementation phase. Since the problems occurring in these two phases are distinctive, this dissertation will also divide the problems into the phases they belong to. In order to illustrate the problems, for each type of problems an example will be given, which will then lead to the details of problems and subsequently analysis.After analysis, this dissertation holds the opinion that in the tender phase the Chinese construction enterprises are affected by two types of problems respectively in respect of marking and pricing. In response to these problems, the dissertation proposed detailed solutions. While in the implementation phase the most outstanding problems happen to project organization and progress control, for which the dissertation made detailed analysis and proposed solutions as well.These problems the Chinese construction enterprises are facing now mainly originated from the non-acclimatization they have experienced when expanding from domestic to international engineering market. Therefore, the crux is to find out the characteristics of the latter, and then responsively make changes to both policy and actions of the enterprises. So long as the Chinese construction enterprises can realize and rectify these problems, they will achieve success in their international expansion.
