In the past, economic growth in our country has been mainly dependent on exports and investment, now the traditional way have not satisfied the need of high-speed growth. In recent years, the innovation of information technology is accelerating in the worldwide, in the field of information,the new products, new services, new business modes, constantly inspire new consumer demand ang increasingly become active consumption hot spots. Our country has a large market scale, is in the stage of accelerating the development of fusion of the residents’ consumption upgrades and informationization, industrialization, urbanization and agricultural modernization, information consumption has a good development foundation and great potential for development, become momentum to promote China’s economic growth. At the same time, the information consumption in country is facing some problems that promoting the ability of infrastructure to support, weak ability of product and service innovation, high market access threshold, imperfect supporting policies, seriously trade barriers, not adapt to system and mechanism, needs to take measures to solve. Speeding up the promotion information consumption, can effectivly create demand ang new economic growth point, promoting consumption upgrading, industrial transformation, and improving people’s livelihood, is a important measure that being good for not only the current and long-term but also steady growth and restructuring.Therefore, this paper through analyzing some basic theory of information consumption, using econometric methods from two angles of vertical and horizontal to analyze information consumption of residents to economic growth leading role, it is concluded that compared with the traditional way of information consumption It can more stimulate economic growth, improve people’s living standard. Finally to solve the problems of information consumption and accelerate the information consumption continues to grow, and puts forward to policies and suggestions. This paper consists of the following five parts:The first part mainly introduces the research background and research significance of information consumption, the research on information consumption theory literature review at home and abroad and the main research contents in this paper, research methods, the innovation of the paper.The second part is mainly the definition of information consumption of residents and information consumption related theory. Due to the theory now is fuzzy to the boundary of information consumption, so this paper’s research scope of information consumption will definite in terms of communication and cultural and educational consumption, GDP means growth, information consumption and information consumption to economic growth is a theory foundation of relationship between residents information consumption and economic growth.The third part mainly elaborates the present condition and development of the information consumption in our country. Reviews the historical evolution of information consumption, expounds the present situation and problems of information consumption structure in our country from urban and rural, regional, and the problems existing in information consumption, as basis for qualitative research in this paper.The fourth part is the most important part of this article, this chapter studies the connection of information consumption and economic growth, communication and culture and education of rural and urban residents are used to represent information consumption, implementing stationarity test for information consumption and economic growth, determine the lag order number by using VAR model, through Granger causality test to analyse the relationship between residents information consumption and the all national economic growth,on the other hand according to traditional national income identity, consumption can be divided into other consumption and information consumption, creating new coefficient equation, and using econometrics to calculate the coefficient of each variable. The coefficient in front of the information consumption is larger than other consumption coefficient, it means that information consumption pulling effect on economic growth is greater than the other pulling effect on economic growth.The fifth part is the policy suggestions to promote the information consumption of residents. Mainly through raising the level of subject of information consumers, improving the supply side of the information consumption, improving the information consumption environment several aspects to improve residents information consumption and promote economic growth.
