Under the background of global economic integration, people from different countries with different cultural background are travelling amongst country borders and this flow blurs the boundaries between countries and cultures. After China’s reform and opening-up, large number of foreign companies entered into China market, these companies brought in western managerial ideas and cultural habits as well. When these exotic ideas and habits collide with traditional Chinese cultures, series of cross-cultural conflicts and contradictions are generated. This thesis is written based on real culture management conflict cases that took place within French Company “C” and combined with author’s own working experience with the company. The purpose of this thesis is to study cross-culture management phenomena and expect to deliver suggestions for its future growth in China.Firstly, by quoting the Cultural Dimension Theories of Geert.Hofstede, this thesis compares the differentiations and generalities between Chinese and French cultures based on 5 dimensions including power distance, collectivism vs individualism, feminity vs masculinity, uncertainty avoidance, long term vs short term.Secondly, based on the phenomena of the current business situation of Company C, such as business decline, personnel & customer loss, deterioration of financial position, then by conducting employee questionnaire this thesis reveals the problems that caused those phenomena such as company cross-cultural operational problem caused by the French arrogance, cross-cultural management & systematic problems caused by the stubborn French management style, cross-cultural team problems caused by the differentiation between Chinese and French cultures. In order to solve these problems, this thesis proposed suggestions including- to accelerate cross-culture merge and to establish proper cross-cultural operational philosophies, to build up appropriate cross-cultural and relevant rules and regulations, to build up a cross-culture team and to accelerate talent localization process. In the end this thesis draws the conclusion that for Company C- the merge between its original French culture and traditional Chinese culture is a must, the company should establish proper operational philosophy that fits into China market and to establish its own company culture and build a cross-culture team to grow its business successfully in China market.
