All the time, Chinese production and trade of fishery is so huge. Guangdong has become a strong province of aquatic product production and trade by virtue of its abundant fresh water and marine resources as well as good momentum of export-oriented economy development. With the easing of cross-strait situation, the economic and trade cooperation is continual and aquaculture area of Taiwan is prominent. In order to further promote the development and cooperation between Guangdong and Taiwan related to fishery, reduce the mutual competition and achieve the complementary advantages, we need to analyze the trade competitiveness and trade complementariness of aquatic product trade between Guangdong and Taiwan.Based on going through and collecting a lot of information and data about aquatic product production and trade between Guangdong and Taiwan, this paper analyzes the total output of aquatic product, the productive structure, the total volume of imports and exports, the foreign trade dependence and the proportion of aquatic product in agricultural trade. It finds that in the aspect of production, the development of aquaculture industry in Guangdong really gets significant results, which makes its total output of aquatic product rise rapidly. By contrast, the growth of Taiwan’s total output of aquatic product flattens out, and the fishing industry holds a conspicuous position. In the aspect of trade, the aquatic product trades of two areas show the upward trend, especially in Guangdong. The trade dependence on the international market of Taiwan’s aquatic product is greater than in Guangdong. Both the aquatic product exports account for more than one third in the agricultural products exports. Then, this paper selects the statistical data of Guangdong and Taiwan aquatic product trade from 2004 to 2013 as the samples. Through utilizing the regional resources endowment coefficient, the regional revealed comparative advantage index, the export similarity index, the trade complementariness index and the trade intensity index, this paper measures the trade competitiveness and trade complementariness of aquatic product trade between Guangdong and Taiwan. It finds that, there is a certain degree of competition in aquatic product trade between Guangdong and Taiwan, but it is not very fierce. Besides, the complementariness between them is not strong, but the trend reinforces gradually. Finally, this paper offers some suggestions on the effective promotion of the development and cooperation about aquatic product trade between Guangdong and Taiwan under the ECFA.
