Since the middle of 1980s, along with the developing of regional economic integration, it has become an important tendency to promote its economic growth by strengthening regional economic cooperation, and promote with neighbouring countries or other parts of the process of regional economic integration between countries. In 1991,China joined in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, then gradually joined in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Lancang-Mekong Subregional Cooperation, China-Asean Free Trade Area and other regional economic cooperation organizations,which had played a great role in promoting the regional investment liberalization, developing regional economic and technological cooperation in such aspects as establishing strengthen good-neighborly and friendly relations.The port is not only the "window" and the power of the development of border areas, but also is an important platform for the border regions to involve in the economic globalization and realize spanning development. Such as elements in building industry, the increase of regional competitive power and advantage of policy have an irreplaceable important role. Capital, talent, energy and other resources are agglomerated by border port town, which can support the port construction and development. With the development of regional economic integration, strengthening regional economic cooperation, the border port towns gradually become the world "bridgehead", which connecting our country with the southeast Asia, Central Asia, South Asia. Northeast Asia and the rest of the world. Also, the border port towns reflect the policy of strengthening the people’s livelihood and stable border. They are bases which connecting the minority to the economic corridor. They occupy an important position on contacting home and abroad,collaborative development, holding prosperity and benefit together.Under the background of the new international environment and political and economic pattern and demands of economic and social development in China, the border port towns with will play a huge role in the rise of economic and social development in the border area.First, based on reviewing the predecessors’research results, and combining with typical practical cases analysis, this study proposes that the boundary effect, border trade, ports, urban functions are the four key elements, which promote the evolution and development of the border port towns with the interaction simultaneously, it has been divided into four stages of the evolution,which are towns of border crossing and trading, logistics and trading, machining base,and integrated ones. Secondly, by analyzing the development evolution process and characteristic of MengDing border port town, this study proposes the influence on its development such as the geopolitical landscape, border trading and economic development, national policy guide, transportation and other infrastructure construction and the interaction between port and urban relations.Thirdly, based on the background of the regional economic cooperation, this paper analyzes the affect to MengDing with the new development trend in Burma,which brings opportunities and challenges. Finally, based on the basic evolution mechanism of the development of the border towns, it concludes that it is important for the development of MengDing town with the economic development and open degree of Burma, trade cooperation as well as the construction of regional transportation. Combining with the situation analysis, there are three ways of trends in MengDing town,which are stable, rapid and leapfrog development. The whole thesis contains about 69 000 words,72 pictures and charts.
