With the progress of the reform and opening-up policy and the development of the tourism, the hotel industry in our country has been faced with a management environment that has never happened. The economic globalization makes the domestic hotel face with the international market directly and compete with hotels all around the world. At the same time, the rapid development, diversity and individual needs of the new economy represented by the internet, knowledge-based economy and advanced technology are all showing the great challenge for the hotel industry .This research aims to study the star-hotel in Harbin, and reveals the degree of competition and how to improve their competitiveness .The research methods this paper aim to employ are as follows: the combination of quantitative and qualitative study, the combination of static and dynamic study, the combination of normative and empirical study, comparative and analytical study.This paper are based on the analysis about star-hotel in Harbin, using the theory of niche to build star-hotel competitiveness index system. Comprehensive reflecting and calculating the current status of star-hotel in Harbin on two aspects: niche overlap and niche value, then classifying the hotel under study and proposing competitive strategy. And finally reach the aim of regulating the competition of Harbin’s star-hotel industry and enhancing overall competitiveness. The main results of the paper are as follow:Firstly, this paper summarized the condition of the star-hotel in Harbin, and use the method of SWOT to analyze it and found out the preponderance and deficiency, evolution and challenge about star-hotel industry.Secondly, this paper built the evaluation index system of niche competition about star-hotel in Harbin. From niche overlap and niche value to calculate the statuesque of the competitiveness about star-hotel in Harbin, and according to the results to analyze each hotel under study.Thirdly, combined with business competitors types, depending on the actual result of niche value and niche overlap degree of each star-hotel, this paper classify the hotel under study as four main types: insects type, poultry type, small beast type and fierce beast type.Finally, according to the classification results, this paper uses the theory of niche to provide solutions to improve the competitiveness of star-hotel in Harbin, aiming to avoid the chaos in the market as a result of build competition.
