The Analysis About The Difference On The Efficiency Of Regional Tourism Industry In China

With the rapid development of economic globalization, the world tourism industry has entered its golden age of development. It has a close relationship with a country’s humanity, social and history and has been a very important aspect of the national soft power. Since reform and opening up, the tourism industry of our country has great changes with the rapid development of national economy. It has experienced such stages of development, as from small to large, from weak to strong, and plays an increasingly important role in the social economy. As the government puts more and more emphasis on tourism, tourism has become an important growth point of national economy. Although the development of tourism industry is very fast, the development of tourism in different areas shows great imbalance because of the diversity of resource condition, locational condition, industrial structure, economic development level and national policy, and the imbalance is increasingly significant. In this case, It is necessary to carry out the efficiency of regional tourism industry accurately and objectively. By analyzing these differences, our goal is to improve the efficiency of regional tourism industry in China.The paper uses a panel data from the year 2008 to 2012 to calculate the tourism industry efficiency of 31 regions in our country by the three-stage DEA method. In the first stage, the traditional DEA method is used. The efficiency values we have got in the first stage can not reflect the real situation accurately and objectively because there is no consideration of the effect of the environmental factors and random errors. In the second stage, we eliminate the influence of external environment factors and random errors by SFA regression toeach input redundancy. All the values of σ2 and y pass the test of significance, so it is necessary to use the method of SFA. In the third stage, we get new efficiency valves by using the values of adjusted input variables. By comparing with the efficiency of the first stage, we can get the following conclusion:Firstly, there are great difference in the technical efficiency among the three major areas of China, and the specific manifestation is like this:The technical efficiency in eastern areas is higher than that in the other two areas, and the central areas is higher than the western ares, and the difference is narrowing as time goes on. Secondly, the traditional one-stage DEA method overestimates the technical efficiency and the scale efficiency and underestimates the pure technical efficiency. Finally, the pure technical efficiency in the eastern areas is higherthan that in the two other areas. There is little difference in the pure technicalefficiency between the central area and the western area, but the difference in the scale efficiency between the two areas is big.
