Comprehensive Evaluation Of Yunnan Sustainable Development Based On Principal Component Analysis

Since the1980s, the concept of sustainable development has been fully expounded, which gradually become one of the hot problems in the world. The scientific community paid more and more attention to the related problems about the sustainable development between human and nature. Adhere to the principle of overall consideration on three pillars (economic development, social development and environmental protection) and closely around sustainable development goals, people have to coordinate economic, social and environmental factors, and promote comprehensive and balanced sustainable development strategy. This will help to build consensus and further advance the global and regional cooperation and promote the sustainable development of countries all over the world. In view of this, China has taken the sustainable development of human and nature as a long-term strategic goal. The southwest region of China has made significant achievements during the last20years along the road of reform and opening up. However, compared to the level of development in the middle and eastern provinces or cities of China, there is still a large gap between Yunnan and them. Taking advantage of the economic and social development data from Yunnan province, this paper investigated the factors that affect sustainable coordinate development in Yunnan province. First, we introduced the fundamental theory about the sustainable development and the research status at home and abroad. Then, we presented the evaluation index system of sustainable development ability and practical operating methods. Based on the latest statistical data from the statistical yearbook-2013in Yunnan province, and the China statistical yearbook-2013, we used statistical software SPSS17.0to perform principal component analysis (PCA) on the relevant data from five aspects (the resource, population, economy, society and environment), and explored the trend of sustainable development of Yunnan province. Moreover, according to the results of principal component analysis for evaluation of sustainable development level of Yunnan province for each subsystem, we got the component score coefficient of the calculated weight of each index, and used the comprehensive evaluation method to analyze the coordinated development status in Yunnan province during2000-2012. Finally, based on the derived conclusions, we put forward some policy suggestions for the sustainable development of Yunnan province.
